Get the Most Out of Your Design Team
immixdesign | March 4, 2009We always recommend that you define the goals of your project and think about your desired outcome. Take time to consider why you are bringing in a design consultant:
1.) A VENDOR You have an exact idea, and are looking for someone to produce it. Usually the reason for choosing this type of designer is because they are less expensive, meaning they are fresh out of school, doing design as a second job, etc.
2.) A PARTNER You have a rough idea, but you want input and creativity added… you have a desire to collaborate. Generally, this type of creativity comes from a more experienced designer, and more often than not, a small team of designers focusing on your project. They are accustomed to highly creative, demanding assignments, and thrive on a close-nit team.
How does a design team help you add creativity to your company? We will engage in discussions with you, learn about your business, your competition, and do additional research and brainstorming of our own. We work hard to craft innovative concepts—and ultimately a perfect outcome to your design.
When a design team is more integrated in your internal marketing and strategy conversations, they have the ability to share their expertise, interject ideas, and have a clear picture of the overall project. This also opens up to a more creative environment because they aren’t just working blindly on one small piece.
It’s always best to have ideas in mind, but invite your design team in and be open to the creative process. You’ll find they will help your ideas transcend in ways that you didn’t expect, adding creativity and value.
